Overview:
As of 5 March 2026, Poland has introduced updates to the legal framework governing Ukrainian nationals residing and working in the country. While temporary protection measures continue, the new legislation establishes clearer conditions, timelines, and compliance requirements.
For employers and HR teams, this is not a routine extension. It is a regulatory refinement that requires careful review of workforce status and internal processes.
Key Changes
Temporary protection allowing Ukrainian nationals to legally reside in Poland is extended until 4 March 2027. However, protection will cease if an individual leaves Poland for more than 30 consecutive days.
Simplified work authorisation remains available, provided the employer submits the required notification to the relevant authorities. Employers should ensure that notifications are accurate and filed within the prescribed timelines.
New registration requirements also apply. Certain individuals must confirm their identity with local authorities by 31 August 2026 in order to maintain their legal stay.
From 5 March 2026, standard regulations governing self-employment resume. Ukrainian nationals operating under previous simplified arrangements must ensure compliance with the regular framework.
Important Notes
Employers should conduct a structured review of Ukrainian employees’ legal stay and work authorisation status. Particular attention should be given to travel history, notification filings, and upcoming identity confirmation deadlines.
Ukrainian nationals are advised to verify whether additional registration steps apply to them to avoid unintended gaps in legal residence.
