Overview:
Effective 1 August 2025, new stamp duty rates apply to Polish citizenship applications. These changes follow the amendment to the Repatriation Act and related laws of 25 June 2025 and significantly increase the costs for applicants.
Key Changes
Presidential Grant of Citizenship: Application fee – PLN 1,669.
This fee is newly introduced, as applications were previously free of charge. It applies when citizenship is granted at the discretion of the President of Poland for special reasons, such as distinguished service to the Polish State.
Standard Grant of Citizenship: Application fee – PLN 1,000.
This represents an increase from the previous PLN 219 fee. It applies when citizenship is granted by the Immigration Authority based on statutory requirements, including residence period, certified Polish language proficiency, and social integration.
Citizenship Confirmation Certificate: PLN 277.
This fee, previously PLN 58, applies when official confirmation of holding or losing Polish citizenship is required, typically verified through birth certificates, passports, or other official records.
Important Notes
Transitional Rule: Applications submitted before 1 August 2025 and still pending will remain subject to the previous, lower fees.
Processing Timeline: Decisions are expected within six months of application. This timeframe also applies to procedures initiated before 1 August 2025 that remain unresolved. Previously, the law prescribed 1–2 months under the Administrative Procedure Code, but in practice, processing times were often significantly longer.
